First Female Officer Proposed as Director of Sri Lanka’s CID !

It has been proposed to appoint a female officer as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director, a first in the history of Sri Lanka Police.

Police internal information disclosed that the name of Senior Superintendent Imesha Muthumala, who is currently working as the Deputy Director of CID, has been proposed in this regard.

Imesha Muthumala, was among the first three female Assistant Superintendents in the history of the Sri Lanka Police to join the police service as Assistant Superintendents in 2007. She was promoted Superintendent in 2017 and has the potential to rise to the position of IGP if the post of Inspector General of Police is opened to women officers.

She holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from the Ruhuna University and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the Open University.

SSP Muthumala has been working as an Assistant Superintendent in the Nugegoda Police Division and has also worked in the Police Clearance Division and was the supervising officer of the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department. She was appointed as Deputy Director of the CID in June 2021.

She has studied the crisis management course at the US Hawaii Police Training College, the anti-money laundering course conducted by the FBI in Thailand, the anti-criminal policing course at the Royal Police Academy in Malaysia, and the anti-criminal policing course at the Hyderabad Police Academy in India. Apart from this, she has also studied the course on internet crime in India.

With Muthumala being proposed as the CID Director, DIG P.Ampavila has been nominated for the post of Deputy Inspector General of the Criminal Investigation Department.
