Viva La Vida! Celebrate Fiestas Patrias at Dandenong Market

It’s the rhythm of lively salsa beats that vibrate through the air, the smell of sizzling street food wafting from every corner, and the flavours of zesty ceviche, smoky grilled meats, and rich, velvety mole. It’s the vibrant colours of fresh produce, clothing and homes, the sound of mariachis serenading with soulful songs, and the comforting aroma of freshly made empanadas. From the vibrant streets of Mexico, where the scent of chiles and spices fills the air, to the bustling streets of Brazil, Chile and Peru, where the tang of lime and sweetness of dulce de leche invigorates the senses and every day is a fiesta.

This is the unmistakable energy and allure of The Latin Americans – it draws you in and captivates your senses.

As the vibrant traditions of Independence Day echo across Latin American nations, Fiestas Patrias at Dandenong Market is set to be the year’s most unforgettable celebration! On Sunday, September 15th, join us as we gather to revel in the vibrancy and diversity that the Latin Americas bring to life.

The Flavours

From the spicy, zingy and sweet flavours of Chilean cuisine to the hearty, smoky goodness that is a Brazilian BBQ to the freshness of Mexican food, Fiestas Patrias is first and foremost about this community’s spectacular food!

We’re spoiled for choice at the Market with Café Valentina’s delightful offerings. Here, Maria and Eric share their Chilian heritage through freshly made cheese and beef empanadas, the ultimate choripan sandwich, and a mouthwatering array of handmade sweets like the Brazo de Reina—a rolled sponge cake filled with lush dulce de leche. And speaking of indulgence, don’t miss out on Butter Mafia’s special creation for the occasion— a glorious Tres Leches sponge cake, a nod to Latin American tradition with its rich, milky
decadence.

Bringing with them their infectious energy and bold flavours in iconic dishes like birria tacos and quesadillas, Brazilian BBQ, plantains, arepas and more, will be some of the best food trucks in Melbourne! Fiestas Patrias will be the place to get your hands on Brazilian pastel – served by the only pastelaria in all of Melbourne!

The Music

Good music is interconnected with good food at any Latin celebration, and we have a spectacular line-up scheduled for this fiesta!

The day will begin with a live Cuban band – Son Quba – an ensemble performing traditional music from Cuba. The beats of the drums, rhythms of the guitars, mixed with harmonious vocals invite you to dance, sing and feel connected as a community.

From here we dial up the energy! Witness the classic dance styles of the Samba, Bachata and Salsa thanks to the talented team at Entertainment Dance Creations. Mexbourne Dance Company will take you on a journey through the rich culture of Mexico with their mesmerising performances, wrapped in vibrant music, costumes and traditions.

Bringing it all together will be DJ Henrique Santos – spinning the best of global Latin music all throughout the day! Honestly, the only thing missing from this high-energy line-up is J Balvin himself!

As we welcome the warmth of spring, let’s come together for a good old-fashioned fiesta—celebrating a rich, diverse culture that is known for its incredible food, strong sense of community, and, above all, its unbeatable vibes.

This is not an event you want to miss!
