Toddler taken to hospital after snake bite at Gold Coast Show

A toddler has been taken to hospital after he was bitten by a snake at the Gold Coast Show.

A night at the Gold Coast Show has ended in horror after a toddler was bitten by a snake.

A young boy was at the Gold Coast Show in Southport with his family when he felt something climbing up his leg on Saturday night, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

The boy told event staff he thought the snake was a stick and attempted to pick it up before he was bitten.

He was treated for a suspected snake bite in the event’s medical tent and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital by ambulance at 7.09pm in a stable condition.

t remains unclear what type of snake bit the boy, with the Bulletin reporting it had simply been described as “short”.

The incident comes after Tony Harrison, from Harrison’s Gold Coast and Brisbane Snake Catcher, revealed his business had received 10 calls relating to snakes in one wild Friday on August 23.

He told the Courier Mail it is “crazy season” as mating season has kicked off, with snakes being found inside a Southport school, in the bedroom of a home and on the door handle of a Broadbeach shop.

It starts now and ends in October. That’s the crazy season,” he said.

“We start off with carpet pythons and green tree snakes now, then the eastern browns and all the other stuff. Then as the eastern browns finish, they’re the last ones to go usually.

“The eastern browns mate for much longer for whatever reason.”
