Somali Community Inc. Australia Welcomes Ms. Marwa Abdibashir Hagi MP to the Parliament of Victoria

Somali Community Inc. Australia Hosts Warm Welcome for Ms. Marwa Abdibashir Hagi MP in Victoria Parliament.

Somali Community Inc. Australia (SCIA) is delighted to announce the successful and warmly received visit of Ms. Marwa Abdibashir Hagi MP, a distinguished member of the Federal Government of Somalia, to the Parliament of Victoria. The visit was hosted by Victorian Parliament members Evan Mulholland MP, David Southwick MP, and Richard Welch MP, with notable participation from our community, including Ms. Halima Sh Mohamed (Kaaraan), a former Somali Parliament member during the Siad Barre era, and several Somali youth.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for Ms. Hagi to gain insights into the functioning of the Victorian Parliament. Members of the Victorian Parliament detailed the operations of both houses, covering parliamentary sessions, seating arrangements for government, opposition, and other MPs, as well as the legislative process. The discussion extended to the laws governing the Parliament, and the MPs also conducted a guided tour of the historic Parliament building, which dates back to 1851.

A highlight of the visit was a separate meeting between Ms. Hagi and MPs David Southwick and Richard Welch. During this meeting, the MPs presented Ms. Hagi with a special gift, marking a memorable occasion as it was their first interaction with a Somali Parliament member.

This visit was Ms. Hagi’s inaugural engagement with Victorian MPs in Melbourne following her recent arrival in Australia. SCIA extends heartfelt thanks to all involved in facilitating this important meeting, especially to Victorian MPs David Southwick, Richard Welch, and Evan Mulholland for their hospitality and support.
