Scott Morrison Urges Sri Lankans to Embrace Resilience and Optimism for a Brighter Future

In a significant gathering at the ITC Hotel’s Sky Bridge on July 19, 2024, Sri Lanka welcomed former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. The event, hosted by Don Susantha Katugampala, Chairman and Founder of Fairfields Lawyers, brought together esteemed guests to hear Morrison’s encouraging message to the Sri Lankan people.

Katugampala, reflecting on his 34 years in Australia and 25 years practicing immigration law, praised Morrison’s impactful tenure as Prime Minister and Finance Minister. He highlighted Morrison’s commendable leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, noting, “He did an amazing job for Australia, for its people, and the economy, and he saved the economy.”

Addressing the attendees, Morrison expressed admiration for the resilience and optimism of the Sri Lankan people. He remarked, “What struck me about the people of Sri Lanka has been the resilience… you love life, you love your families, you love your communities, you love your country.” Morrison acknowledged the country’s struggles but emphasized the significant progress made since the economic crisis, urging Sri Lankans to continue their dedication and perseverance.

Morrison also commended Sri Lankan President’s leadership, describing it as courageous and essential for the nation’s recovery. “The President and I have met on many occasions over the last decade or more, and so I pay credit to his leadership,” he stated. He encouraged Sri Lankans to maintain their commitment to stability and economic growth, reinforcing the importance of strong international partnerships, particularly with countries like Australia.

As Sri Lanka faces critical decisions in the coming months, Morrison’s message was clear: trust in your resilience, stick to the plan, and the world will witness Sri Lanka’s rise to greatness.
