Heroic Rescue – Indian Navy Saves Sri Lankan and Indian Crew After Oil Tanker Capsizes in Oman

The Indian Navy’s INS Teg has heroically rescued nine crew members from the capsized oil tanker MT Falcon Prestige off the coast of Oman. Amidst challenging weather conditions, the navy’s relentless efforts continue as search operations for the remaining crew members are underway.

In a courageous and complex rescue mission, the Indian Navy’s warship INS Teg saved nine out of 16 crew members after the oil tanker, MT Falcon Prestige, capsized 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah near the port town of Duqm in Oman. Battling rough seas and strong winds, the rescue team located and brought to safety eight Indian nationals and one Sri Lankan.

The incident tragically resulted in the death of one crew member, while the search for the remaining seven missing individuals continues. The entire crew of the Comoros-flagged tanker consisted of 16 members, including 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans.

Sources confirm that the rescued crew includes eight Indian nationals and one Sri Lankan. Search and rescue efforts have been ongoing since the morning of July 16, coordinated with Omani authorities.

INS Teg, specifically deployed for Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, quickly arrived at the scene to provide critical assistance. Complementing the efforts of INS Teg, the Indian Navy’s Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft, P8I, has been instrumental in the ongoing search efforts. Known for its advanced surveillance capabilities, the P8I aircraft has been scouring the turbulent waters, providing vital support in the search and rescue mission.

The adverse weather conditions, characterized by rough seas and strong winds, have posed significant challenges to the rescue operations. Despite these obstacles, the Indian Navy remains undeterred, continuing their mission to locate and rescue the remaining crew members.

This incident underscores the Indian Navy’s dedication to maritime safety and their exceptional capability in conducting rescue operations under the most challenging conditions. The successful rescue of nine crew members stands as a testament to their preparedness and heroism in maritime emergencies.
