Sashika Nisansala: The Singer of Hearts

Sashika Nisansala Jayasumana known popularly as Sashika Nisansala, is one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated and award-winning singers and playback singers. Her soulful voice and emotive performances have earned her the affectionate title of the “Singer of the Heart.” Sashika’s extraordinary talent and dedication to her craft have garnered her numerous accolades, including the SLIM Peoples Awards for the Most Popular Female Singer, which she has won for an unprecedented nine consecutive years since 2016. She has also been recognized as the Youth Choice Female Singer for three consecutive years since 2022.

Early Life and Education

Born on 28 September 1981 in Deraniyagala, Sashika’s musical journey began at an early age. She completed her primary education at Udapola Primary School before moving on to President’s College, Avissavella, for her grade-5 scholarship. After successfully passing the scholarship exam, she attended Dharmapala College, Eheliyagoda, where she completed her GCE Ordinary Level Examination. Sashika later attended Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda, for her GCE Advanced Level studies.

Following her A/Ls, Sashika entered the University of Kelaniya in 2002, where she earned a special degree in Bachelor of Arts. Her thirst for knowledge did not stop there; in 2006, she completed her Master of Arts degree.

Personal Life

Sashika is married and is a proud mother of two sons. Despite her busy career, she manages to balance her personal life with grace and dedication.

Musical Career

Sashika’s musical journey began at the tender age of five when she started playing the keyboard. Her passion for music led her to participate in popular television and radio musical programs such as Muthuhara and Udara. Her big break came when she won the Thurunu Shakthi singing competition organized by the National Youth Services Council. This victory paved the way for her debut album, which featured hit songs like “Paramitha Nopuramu Api Dedena,” “Thol Pethi Vitharak,” “Sanda Reta Reta,” and “Sanda Eliya Mamai Nam.” These songs quickly gained popularity, and Sashika was invited to perform at hundreds of outdoor musical shows.

In 2010, Sashika released her first music video, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her career. She continued to captivate audiences with her singles and playback songs, becoming a beloved figure in the Sri Lankan music industry. In 2021, Sashika released her first original music video, “Chandra Payanna,” on YouTube, showcasing her versatility and continued relevance in the digital age.
