With shipments paused, Toyota Australia has halted local deliveries of the Yaris Cross SUV as its parent company works with Japanese authorities following another certification scandal.
A pause has been placed on local deliveries of the Toyota Yaris Cross, following an investigation into fraudulent certification data in Japan.
Toyota confirmed deliveries of the Yaris Cross have been temporarily halted in Australia in the wake of the admissions, with Japanese authorities placing a stop on exports of some models involved as a result.
“Toyota Australia has implemented a temporary pause on customer deliveries of Yaris Cross,” a company spokesperson told Drive in a written statement.
“We take the certification of our vehicles extremely seriously and are working closely with the regulatory authorities.
“We are advised that none of the Yaris Cross SUVs currently for sale or operating on Australian roads has any safety or performance issues,” the statement reads.

“Customers can continue to drive their vehicle.”
Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda made a public apology this week after the Japanese Ministry of Transport named Toyota as one of four car manufacturers to have supplied fraudulent certification data to the government.
While tens of thousands of tests were checked by authorities, six violations had been discovered by Toyota – relating to just one model currently sold in Australian showrooms: the Yaris Cross.
Mr Toyoda revealed that some of the issues relating to the incorrect data were because Toyota engineers had evaluated vehicles in tests that were above the standard required by the Japanese Government – but had failed to obtain the relevant waivers to do so.
