All Island Schools Closed Due to Bad Weather on May 3

In response to the prevailing adverse weather conditions, the Ministry of Education has announced that all schools across Sri Lanka will remain closed today, May 3. This decision was confirmed by State Minister of Education Aravind Kumar, who emphasized the need to prioritize the safety and well-being of students and staff amid the severe weather.

Earlier, it was communicated that the Provincial Education Secretaries and Directors had been given the authority to decide whether to keep schools open on June 3. However, given the intensifying weather conditions, a unified decision was made to close all government schools across the island.

“The safety of our children is of utmost importance. Considering the adverse weather conditions, we have decided that it is best to close all schools to ensure their safety,” stated State Minister Aravind Kumar.

The weather conditions have been unpredictable and severe, prompting this proactive measure by the Ministry of Education. Heavy rains, strong winds, and potential flooding in various parts of the country have raised significant concerns about the safety of commuting and the overall well-being of the school communities.

Parents, students, and school staff are advised to stay updated through official channels for any further announcements. The Ministry of Education is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.

This decision underscores the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the safety of students and educational staff during periods of inclement weather. The authorities are urging everyone to take necessary precautions and remain indoors as much as possible until the weather improves.

For further information and updates, parents and guardians are encouraged to stay tuned to official announcements from the Ministry of Education and local authorities.
