A new report claims there are discussions to give Elon Musk a policy advisor position in a potential Trump White House, but the Tesla boss has denied the claims.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has quashed rumours he could soon have another job, with reports the billionaire entrepreneur is being considered for a policy advisor position by Donald Trump.
Reports out of the US claim that Musk is in the frame for a role if the former US President and presidential candidate, Donald Trump, wins the upcoming US Federal Election.
According to newspaper The Wall Street Journal, Mr Trump and Mr Musk have been in discussions over a possible advisory role – with the Tesla boss potentially being sought for his input on issues related to border security and the economy.
However, Mr Musk refuted the claims, writing on social media platform X (formerly Twitter): “There have not been any discussions of a role for me in a potential Trump Presidency.”
WSJ claims people familiar with the matter say the policy advisor role hasn’t been formally offered to Mr Musk at this point, and may not happen.

Currently, Mr Musk is; CEO, angel investor, and product architect at Tesla, as well as; the founder, chairman, CEO, and CTO of SpaceX.
Additionally he is also; the owner, chairman, and CTO of X (formerly Twitter), founder of The Boring Company and xAI, co-founder of Neuralink and OpenAI, and president of the Musk Foundation.
Despite endorsing Mr Biden in 2020, Tesla has been publicly snubbed by the US President and the current White House administration on multiple occasions in the past – with the report claiming Mr Musk will be “galvanising the support of influential allies” in an attempt to ensure President Biden loses in November.
The report claims Mr Musk and Mr Trump have spoken about possible ways for the Tesla CEO to exert “formal input and influence” over US policy.
However, Mr Trump has been on the record calling for donations from the oil and gas industry in exchange for reversing President Biden’s tailpipe emissions policies, and has said he will slash electric-vehicle tax credits if elected.

Mr Musk had previously admitted to having an unplanned breakfast with Mr Trump in Florida while staying at a friend’s home.
“Let’s just say he did most of the talking,” Mr Musk told news broadcaster CNN.
“There was nothing particularly groundbreaking or new,” he said in March 2024.
“President Trump likes to talk. And so, he talked. I don’t recall him saying anything that he hasn’t said publicly. And that was it, just a breakfast.”
