Man Arrested for Espionage on Behalf of Pakistan in Gujarat

In a startling revelation, the Gujarat Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has apprehended Pravin Mishra for espionage activities on behalf of a Pakistani intelligence agency, stirring security concerns across India. Mishra stands accused of gathering classified information pertaining to the Indian Armed Forces and defense-related research and development (R&D) entities.

In a recent development that has sent shockwaves through security circles, the Gujarat Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested Pravin Mishra, a resident of Ankleshwar in Bharuch district, for alleged espionage on behalf of a Pakistani intelligence agency. Mishra, originally from Muzaffarpur in Bihar, stands accused of collecting highly sensitive data concerning the Indian Armed Forces and defense-related R&D firms.

According to CID officials, Mishra was under surveillance following a tip-off from the Military Intelligence, Udhampur. Investigations revealed that Mishra was in communication with a Pakistani intelligence operative via WhatsApp calls and audio chats, purportedly conspiring against national security interests.

The CID divulged that Mishra’s illicit activities were channeled towards a clandestine network based in Pakistan. The probe also exposed the involvement of individuals within India, with a case registered against Mishra and the Pakistani operative, who utilized an Indian WhatsApp number and a fictitious Facebook identity under the name ‘Sonal Garg’.

Furthermore, the CID disclosed that the scope of the investigation extends to officers and employees suspected of collaborating with the operative. These individuals are believed to have facilitated the transmission of classified information via the WhatsApp platform.

The Military Intelligence, in its alert to the CID, highlighted the vulnerability posed by present or retired personnel associated with the Armed Forces, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The investigation is ongoing, with authorities intensifying efforts to ascertain the extent of the espionage network and prevent further breaches of national security.
