Bajaj Set to Revolutionize Commuting with India’s First CNG Motorcycle

Bajaj Auto, under the leadership of MD Rajiv Bajaj, is gearing up to introduce India’s inaugural CNG-powered motorcycle on June 18, 2024, challenging the dominance of Hero MotoCorp in the entry-level segment. This innovative bi-fuel bike promises to reshape commuting habits with its dual capability to run on CNG and petrol, targeting mileage-conscious riders in the budget range.

Bajaj Auto’s groundbreaking move marks the emergence of a new era in India’s motorcycle industry, with the imminent launch of the country’s first-ever CNG-powered motorcycle on June 18, 2024. Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj revealed this milestone during the recent unveiling of the Pulsar NS400Z, signaling a strategic challenge to Hero MotoCorp’s stronghold in the entry-level motorcycle market.

The bi-fuel motorcycle, positioned at a premium price point, is poised to disrupt the status quo with its dual ability to operate on both CNG and petrol fuels. This strategic maneuver aims to capture the attention of mileage-conscious consumers, particularly in the entry-level segment, where Bajaj currently commands an 8% market share.

To further differentiate its offering, Bajaj will introduce the CNG motorcycle under a distinct brand, targeting buyers sensitive to fuel price fluctuations. With features like alloy wheels, a spacious single-piece seat, and a hybrid braking system, the upcoming model promises to combine affordability with functionality, catering to the diverse needs of commuters.

Despite the anticipation surrounding its launch, specific details about the motorcycle remain undisclosed. However, recent sightings of test mules hint at a standard commuter design, equipped with essential features such as telescopic front forks and a monoshock suspension system. Additionally, trademark applications for potential names like Glider, Marathon, Trekker, and Freedom have been filed, fueling speculation about the model’s branding.

As the countdown to the launch continues, enthusiasts eagerly await revelations regarding the engine specifications and performance metrics. Whether Bajaj opts to modify an existing petrol engine or develop a bespoke powertrain for CNG utilization remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the impending arrival of India’s first CNG motorcycle heralds a significant milestone in the automotive landscape, promising a greener and more sustainable future for commuters nationwide.
