Establishing the new facility in Malaysia exemplifies LEM‘s strategic expansion strategy in response to the rising worldwide demand for the company’s primary offerings, namely current and voltage sensors. The growing demand for these products in various areas, including automation, automotive, traction, and renewable energy, is driven by the necessity to reduce carbon emissions in transportation, industry, energy production, and private life.
LEM decided to make a significant investment in the state of Penang since they acknowledged the region’s proficiency in chip manufacturing.
LEM plans to expand its workforce from approximately 70 employees in April 2024 to over 200 employees by March 2025, and eventually surpass 500 employees. Additionally, the company anticipates that sales from the facility will exceed €200 million. The new factory, spanning 11,800 sqm, has already made arrangements to expand by an additional 5,000 sqm of land. It is equipped with a cutting-edge logistic system that includes automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) on the shop floor. These AGVs efficiently transfer components from the warehouse to the advanced production lines. LEM Malaysia is also the pioneer in the implementation of our new ERP system and will generate a significant portion of its energy using solar panels.
LEM CEO Frank Rehfeld emphasizes the importance of ongoing investment in cutting-edge facilities to provide top-tier solutions for various dynamically evolving industries. According to him, LEM is constantly seeking methods to ensure the security of the company’s operations while expanding its presence worldwide. The recently established Penang factory represents the most recent undertaking in this pursuit.
LEM believes that establishing a technologically advanced facility in this area, which can independently test its semiconductors, will greatly enhance the company’s integrated current sensing business. The plant complies with the Green Building Index (GBI), which is Malaysia’s officially recognized green assessment methodology for buildings in the industry. The building now has 300kW of solar energy systems installed, and an additional 400kW is planned for installation in 2026. In addition, the building utilizes rainwater collection and building automation to manage energy use efficiently. The establishment of this new plant serves as evidence of LEM’s dedication to its CO2 roadmap, which forms an integral component of its overarching mission to facilitate the transition of customers and society at large toward a more sustainable future.
