Indian Navy Foils Narcotics Smuggling Attempt Seizes 940kg Contraband in Western Arabian Sea

In a significant operation, the Indian Navy intercepted a dhow in the Western Arabian Sea, seizing a staggering 940 kilograms of contraband narcotics. This successful interdiction underscores the Navy’s commitment to combatting illicit activities at sea.

The Indian Navy’s vigilance and expertise were on full display as they thwarted a major narcotics smuggling attempt in the Western Arabian Sea. Acting on intelligence inputs, INS Talwar, in collaboration with the Canadian-led Combined Task Force (CTF) 150, intercepted a suspicious dhow on April 13.

This operation marked a milestone for INS Talwar, which conducted its first drug interdiction since joining the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) last November. The ship’s proficient boarding teams, along with the elite Marine Commandos (#MARCOs), executed a flawless operation, seizing a whopping 940 kilograms of contraband narcotics.

The seized narcotics, including 453 kg of methamphetamines, 416 kg of hash, and 71 kg of heroin, represent a significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating in the region. The Indian Navy’s swift and decisive action underscores its pivotal role in maintaining maritime security and upholding international law.

The successful conclusion of this operation highlights the effectiveness of collaborative efforts within the CMF, a 42-nation naval partnership dedicated to promoting security and stability across vast maritime territories. With over 3.2 million square miles under its purview, the CMF plays a crucial role in safeguarding critical shipping lanes and combating transnational threats.

The disposal of the seized narcotics in accordance with CMF Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) reaffirms the commitment to eliminating illicit activities at sea and preventing harmful substances from reaching their intended destinations.

As the Indian Navy continues to enhance its capabilities and expand its footprint in maritime security operations, such operations serve as a stern warning to criminal syndicates seeking to exploit maritime routes for illicit gains.
