Spread over an expansive 100,000 square feet in Wattala, this state-of-the-art establishment underscores Maersk’s steadfast commitment to providing integrated supply chain solutions. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of key figures including Vikash Agarwal, Managing Director of Maersk South Asia, Biju Ravi, Head of Maersk Sri Lanka, and Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake, Deputy Chairman & Managing Director of Aitken Spence PLC, alongside other esteemed leaders.

The strategic positioning of this new warehouse speaks volumes about Maersk’s strategic vision and its dedication to facilitating seamless trade operations for its clientele. Vikash Agarwal, in his remarks, emphasized the pivotal role this infrastructure plays in fortifying Maersk’s operations in Sri Lanka. He articulated, “Our new warehouse in Sri Lanka represents a strategic milestone in our commitment to strengthen our operations in the country. By leveraging Sri Lanka’s growing prominence as a logistics hub and investing in infrastructure that our customers have shown interest in, Maersk aims to deliver unparalleled value to its clients while contributing to Sri Lanka’s economic growth and development.”

Strategically nestled in Wattala, a mere 11 kilometers from the seaport, Maersk’s latest facility is strategically positioned to capitalize on Sri Lanka’s advantageous geographical location, serving as a critical nexus for trade routes connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe. With Sri Lanka’s burgeoning trade sector and concerted governmental efforts to enhance infrastructure and foster a conducive business environment, the country emerges as an ideal locale for Maersk to consolidate its presence in this pivotal market.

The warehouse, spanning 100,000 square feet, is adeptly structured to offer export consolidation and third-party logistics (3PL) services, with 50,000 square feet dedicated to each facet. Seamlessly integrating storage, inventory management, and distribution services, this facility caters to the diverse needs of both global conglomerates and local suppliers, particularly in the retail and lifestyle sectors. The 3PL segment enables suppliers to efficiently store their cargo and expedite movement to consolidation points, thus minimizing transit times. Moreover, Maersk’s proximity to an adjacent empty yard ensures swift container movements, facilitating expedited consolidation and subsequent port operations. Notably, this warehouse boasts eco-friendly features such as rainwater harvesting, LED lighting, and solar module compatibility, aligning with Maersk’s commitment to sustainable practices.

In terms of accessibility and efficiency, the new warehouse is poised to redefine industry standards. Its strategic location coupled with advanced infrastructure enables Maersk to cater to the entirety of the Colombo market within a four-hour radius, thereby enhancing operational agility and customer satisfaction.
