“Tim Wilson, Former Liberal MP, Announces Candidacy for Goldstein Seat”

Former Liberal MP Tim Wilson Selected by Party to Reclaim Goldstein Seat in Upcoming Federal Election.

Having previously represented the Melbourne bayside area from 2016 to 2022, Wilson aims to regain the seat lost to independent Zoe Daniel in the last election.

Following a gathering of 300 Liberal Party members on Sunday, Wilson emerged as the chosen candidate from a pool of three contenders.

In a statement issued by the Liberal Party’s Victorian division, Wilson’s candidacy is attributed to his steadfast commitment to integrity in public service.

A spokesperson emphasized Wilson’s dedication to facilitating home ownership for young residents in Goldstein, aiming to transform the aspiration of owning a home into a reality.”

Wilson highlighted that the primary concerns within the Goldstein electorate revolve around the cost of living and home ownership.

He expressed, “Families are grappling with mortgage payments, while grandparents find themselves shouldering their grandchildren’s school expenses.”

Goldstein encompasses various suburbs, including Beaumaris, Black Rock, Highett, Sandringham, Hampton, Brighton, Gardenvale, Elsternwick, and Caulfield South.

Wilson was among six MPs who lost previously secure Liberal seats to independent candidates during the 2022 federal election.

Currently pursuing a PhD in economics, Wilson’s opponent, current Goldstein MP Zoe Daniel, confirmed her candidacy for the next election via the social media platform X.

This announcement coincides with the Victorian Liberal Party’s endorsement of fintech executive Amelia Hamer as its contender for Kooyong, a seat currently held by independent Monique Ryan, who unseated former treasurer Josh Frydenberg in the last election.

Hamer, who grew up in Kooyong, the affluent inner-east of Melbourne, presented her reselection pitch alongside three other candidates at a gathering of 300 party members at Hawthorn Town Hall on Saturday. She has lived in Hawthorn during her childhood and now resides in Kew.
