‘Most annoying’: Brit Ambar Driscoll reveals problem with Australia

[ad_1]

A British influencer has called out “the most annoying thing” she noticed when visiting Australia from London.

Ambar Driscoll, who travelled from Sydney up the east coast to Cairns, took to TikTok to ask why Aussie cafes close so early.

The 25-year-old said at home she would usually go looking for a treat or a “little pick-me-up” between 3pm and 4pm.

“But in Australia all the coffee shops and cafes shut at like 2pm,” she said in disbelief.

“It’s like they don’t want to make money. That is my ideal time to go and sit in a cafe. Why?”

Aussies took to the comment section to explain to Driscoll that we have a morning coffee culture and many agreed it wasn’t worth staffing cafes through to the late afternoon.

“Sorry I’m not working past (2pm) when I’ve been there since 5.30am,” one worker wrote.

“Because they open at 6am. Coffee culture is morning time,” said another Aussie.

“Cause coffee is for the morning,” agreed someone else.

“Afternoon coffee is wild,” one commenter claimed.

“It’s a cafe.. I thought everyone knows the cafe is only open for mornings or brunches. Isn’t that the point??” another added.

Others joked that Australians have ususally moved to the pub by the time the afternoon rolls around.

“After 2:00pm = Wine O’Clock,” one wrote.

“Nobody is waiting around at 3pm. It’s pub time,” said another.

“If you want a coffee after 2pm go to Maccas. Otherwise move onto alcohol and go to the pub,” a third recommended.

Driscoll replied to the commenters.

“I guess cafe culture is very different, people in London loveeee chilling in cafes in the afternoon,” she wrote.

But she wasn’t the only one wishing cafes in Australia were open longer, with some Aussies saying they had been “asking this for years” and that “it’s such a lost market”.

“It’s one of the reasons I bought a coffee machine. I’d love an afternoon coffee but annoyingly coffee shops close too early,” an Australian coffee lover explained.

“I know I’m Aussie and it kills me, who doesn’t have a 3:30 coffee?” said a second.
