Menzies Research Centre Senior Fellow Nick Cater has discussed calls for federal parliamentary terms to be increased from three to four years.
Mr Cater argued that the terms should remain at three years to allow voters to get the chance to judge the government as often as they can.
“If you had governments that actually did policies properly and planned and thought ahead sure give them four-year terms,” Mr Cater told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“But I think the way our government have been going in recent fifteen years or so … I just think the voters should get the chance to judge them as often as they can.
“So I think let’s stick with three-year terms right now until we get a government… that can prove itself worthy of being trusted that they can do something useful in four terms.”
