P-plater clocked at close to 100km/h in a school zone

A 17-year-old New South Wales provisional driver will be without his license for at least six months after police clocked him speeding close to 100km/h in a school zone.

Authorities said they detected the Mitsubishi Lancer speeding at 98km/h on a 40km/h stretch of road in Caringbah – a suburb 24km south of Sydney – on 4 March 2024.

Police alleged the offender said he was in a rush to drop his 15-year-old brother off to school – with the dangerous driving incident incurring a $2967 fine, seven demerit points and a six-month license suspension for the novice motorist.

Additionally, authorities said the young driver will have his license suspension extended by a further three months due to exceeding the legal four demerit point allowance.
