Despite the scare, all passengers are safe, and the airline is making arrangements for their accommodation while working on rescheduling the flight.

SriLankan Airlines has confirmed an incident involving flight UL 605, which encountered a technical issue shortly after departing from Melbourne to Colombo on Monday (12). The aircraft, departing at 6:16 PM local time, swiftly returned to Melbourne Airport as a precautionary measure.

Fortunately, all passengers disembarked safely, with no reported injuries. Reports from Australian media indicated the aircraft’s return to Melbourne Airport at around 7:30 PM after an emergency squawk code of 7700 was activated. This incident drew significant attention, with approximately 10,000 individuals tracking the flight’s status on FlightRadar24.com.

According to Australian media sources, the decision to turn back was made when passengers detected smoke onboard shortly after takeoff. SriLankan Airlines promptly arranged hotel accommodations for all passengers while efforts are underway to reschedule the flight.
