More than 1900 residents lost power after one of several storms that tore through the outer Sydney.

Residents of Campbelltown on the city’s southwestern outskirts, was particularly hard hit.

A spokesperson for NSW State Emergency Services said 63 of the 79 calls they’d received for help after the storms had been from the Sydney Metro region.

“There was a focus on the Campbelltown area,” they said.

The winds were so strong, a carport was blown off and landed on a neighbour’s house in Ruse.

“We’ve also performed a flood rescue in Chipping Norton, where an SES member evacuated a person from half a metre of flood water.”

Energy company Endeavour Energy is working to restore power.

Their site said on Tuesday night Campbelltown had 32 active outages that were affecting hundreds of their customers.

The Bureau of Meteorology said on Tuesday night the storm warning had been cancelled for Sydney, Wollongong and the Blue Mountains, the upper Hunter and southern inland NSW were still at risk of heavy rainfall and damaging winds.

Showers are expected in Sydney for the rest of the week, with a possible storm on Wednesday February 14.

Areas further south have experienced even more extreme conditions, with Melbourne hit with a blackout for over half a million residents amid torrential rain and winds.

Melbourne, which had also experienced a heatwave warning on Tuesday, was buffeted by the weather as one of its leading power stations, the Loy Yang A power station, lost all four of its units in “a significant power system event”.
