Toyota has been deemed the most valuable car brand in the world ahead of Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Tesla in the Interbrand Global Best Brands 2023 report.
The report ranked Toyota sixth overall of the world’s top 100 brands – the same position as the Japanese car maker finished in 2022 – to be the highest-placed automotive brand with a value of $US64.5 billion, one position ahead of Mercedes-Benz ($US61.4 billion).
BMW placed 10th, up from 13th, with Tesla matching its 2022 result of 12th.
Tech giant Apple was ranked first at more than half a trillion US dollars ($US502.68 billion) ahead of Microsoft, and Amazon, who will partner with 32nd-placed Hyundai to sell new cars through its US online store in 2024.
Google was fourth ahead of Samsung.
Automotive brands posted the highest increase in value, with the segment increasing nine per cent over 2022.
The result places Toyota and Mercedes-Benz ahead of beverage behemoth Coca-Cola (eighth) and sports brand Nike (ninth), as well as McDonald’s, which came 11th.
The annual Interbrand Global Best Brands report was first published in the year 2000 and ranks the world’s 100 most valuable brands across multiple categories – automotive, technology, media and others.
The order is based upon data used to measure a brand’s products/services, the role of the brand in the customer purchasing decision, and the strength of the brand based upon projected earnings.
Toyota, Mercedes, BMW and Tesla were the only car makers in the top 20, with Honda next-best in 27th.
Hyundai was ranked 32, with Audi 45th, Porsche climbing six places to 47th and Volkswagen in 50th.
Ford was 51st ahead of Ferrari in 70th place, with Kia 88th.
Interbrand’s report said that the combined value of the world’s top 100 brands increased by only 5.7 per cent in 2023, compared to a 16 per cent gain in 2022.
A total of 69 of the rankings top 100 brands did not change position from 2022 to 2023.
