US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have highlighted the importance of maintaining an open and secure Strait of Hormuz during a recent phone conversation, according to a post shared by Modi on X.
The call between the two leaders reportedly lasted around 40 minutes and focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. Indian media were the first to report details of the discussion.
In his statement, Modi said he received a call from Trump and that both leaders reviewed progress in their ongoing partnership. He added that the two sides expressed commitment to further expanding their Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
The leaders also discussed developments in West Asia, with particular emphasis on ensuring the Strait of Hormuz remains open and secure amid rising regional tensions.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy route, and disruptions in the region have already affected shipping, air travel, and gas supplies. Nearly 40% of India’s crude oil imports pass through the waterway, underscoring its strategic importance.
A White House official confirmed that the call took place but did not provide additional details.
