Badlapur, Maharashtra: The city of Badlapur in Thane district is in turmoil as hundreds of protesters gathered at the Badlapur railway station on Tuesday, demanding justice for two young girls allegedly sexually assaulted at their nursery school last week.
The girls were reportedly abused when they visited the school’s restroom, and the community’s frustration grew after the parents accused authorities of delaying the arrest of the suspect, a male school employee. In response, protesters blocked the tracks at Badlapur station, halting train services. Some reports indicate that the demonstration escalated, with stones being thrown at the police.
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde responded by forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to expedite the case. “We will fast-track the investigation, and anyone found guilty will face severe consequences,” Shinde stated, also promising action against the school if negligence is confirmed.
The school management, facing accusations of safety lapses such as non-functional CCTV cameras, has suspended the principal, a class teacher, and a female employee pending investigation.
This protest comes amid a national wave of outrage following the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor in West Bengal, highlighting ongoing concerns over the safety of women and children in India. The people of Badlapur are determined to see justice served swiftly and to ensure the protection of their community’s most vulnerable members.
