In a remarkable discovery, three ancient metal idols, believed to be around 400 years old, have been unearthed during a house construction project in Baghanki village near Manesar, Haryana. The find sheds light on the rich historical and cultural heritage of the region.
The discovery took place as workers were excavating the foundation for a new house, using a JCB machine. Initially, the plot owner attempted to conceal the find and even offered money to the JCB driver to keep it secret. However, after two days, the driver reported the discovery to the Bilaspur police, leading to a prompt investigation.
The recovered idols include a standing idol of Lord Vishnu, an idol of Goddess Lakshmi, and a joint idol of Goddess Laxmi and Lord Vishnu. These artifacts offer valuable insights into the religious practices and artistic traditions of the past.
Despite local villagers’ desire to build a temple on the plot and have the idols handed over to the panchayat, the Archeology Department officials have refused, stating that these artifacts are the property of the government. The idols will undergo further study in the department’s laboratory before being preserved in the museum.
This discovery serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving and protecting our cultural heritage. It offers a glimpse into the lives and beliefs of our ancestors, enriching our understanding of history.
As we marvel at these ancient artifacts, let us also reflect on the significance of preserving our cultural legacy for future generations to cherish and learn from.
