The 2024 Lexus GX – the luxury, twin-turbo V6-powered version of the new Toyota Prado 4WD – will be priced from $116,000 plus on-road costs when it arrives in showrooms mid-2024.

The GX has been on sale overseas for two decades – in two previous generations, both based on earlier Toyota Prado iterations – but Lexus is taking the new model global, building it in right-hand drive for the first time to be sold in Australia.

The entry-level GX is about $29,000 dearer than the most expensive version of the current Toyota Prado ($87,468), though the gap is expected to close when the new Prado arrives mid-year with a larger body shared with the GX, and more technology.

The most expensive GX costs about $29,000 less than the entry-level version of the larger Lexus LX ($157,061) – which is based on the larger LandCruiser 300 Series ($98,076 to $146,876).

There are three models in the Lexus GX range – the entry-level seven-seat Luxury, five-seat off-road-focused Overtrail, and flagship seven-seat Sports Luxury – all powered by a 260kW/650Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6.

It is matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive. The maximum braked towing capacity is 3500kg in the Luxury and Overtrail, or 3130kg in the Sports Luxury.

As previously reported by Drive, standard features in the Luxury include synthetic leather-look seat trim, a 14-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital instrument display, 20-inch wheels, head-up display, power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, and a suite of advanced safety technology.

The Sports Luxury adds features such as 22-inch wheels, massaging front seats, Mark Levinson premium audio and a panoramic glass roof.

Meanwhile the Overtrail gains 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tyres, unique styling, a locking rear differential, e-KDSS suspension, and other off-road-focused features

All GX variants come with a three-year membership to Lexus Encore, which includes “VIP offers through Lexus partner hotels and restaurants, invitations to exclusive events, movie and Ampol fuel offers, and DriveCare 24/7 roadside assistance,” said Lexus Australia.

The 2024 Lexus GX550 is due in Australian showrooms from the middle of this year.
