New Brunswick is still grappling with wildfire activity, with 16 fires burning across the province as of Saturday afternoon, according to the provincial fire dashboard.
The largest active blaze remains the Beaver Lake Stream fire in Northumberland County, which has spread across 456 hectares. Officials report that it has been out of control for more than three weeks, making it the province’s most concerning fire.
In Restigouche County, the 204-hectare Rocky Brook fire is classified as contained, though authorities warn that contained fires still carry the risk of jumping boundaries under the right conditions.
Elsewhere, officials say one fire is under control, while 13 others are in the patrolled stage, the final step before they are officially declared extinguished.
Weather Outlook:
Environment Canada forecasts cloudy skies across New Brunswick today, with some areas expected to receive up to 5 millimetres of rain tonight. Additional showers are possible on Sunday, potentially helping firefighting efforts.
