15,000 Australians remain in Lebanon as Israel invades.

The unfolding crisis in Lebanon is truly alarming, with Israeli troops invading southern Lebanon and Iranian missiles striking Israel, leaving thousands of Australians stranded in the midst of chaos. As of now, approximately 15,000 Australians remain in Lebanon, with the Australian government scrambling to evacuate them as quickly and safely as possible.

To that end, the government has chartered 100 seats on commercial flights to facilitate the evacuation of its citizens. The first flight is set to depart on Tuesday, with another scheduled for Wednesday. This is a welcome development, as every moment counts in situations like this, where the stakes are high and the risk of harm is ever-present.

Julia Doueihi, an Australian who is currently in Lebanon, has spoken out about the unbearable situation on the ground. Her eyewitness account paints a stark picture of escalating violence and the devastating impact it’s having on innocent civilians. She’s not alone in her fear for those caught in the crossfire, as the conflict continues to escalate.

The Australian government is understandably urging its citizens to leave Lebanon as soon as possible, as the situation in the region grows increasingly perilous. Israel’s attacks in Lebanon have already claimed 55 lives, while Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes on Israel have had limited effectiveness. The humanitarian toll continues to mount, particularly in Gaza, where ongoing Israeli strikes have resulted in widespread casualties.

In the face of such chaos and destruction, it’s heartening to see the Australian government taking proactive steps to evacuate its citizens and provide them with the necessary support. As the situation remains dire, it’s crucial that all parties involved exercise restraint and prioritize the safety of civilians above all else.
