10% Voter Turnout Recorded in First 2 Hours as 96 Seats Across 9 States, Including J&K, Go to Polls

With 10% of voters casting their ballots in the initial two hours, the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha election witnesses a significant turnout across 96 constituencies spanning nine states and one Union Territory, including Jammu and Kashmir.

In the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha election, voters across nine states and one Union Territory are exercising their democratic right to choose their representatives. The turnout, with an average of 10.35% by 9 am, underscores the enthusiasm and participation of citizens in shaping the country’s future. Notably, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana account for 44% of the 96 seats, marking the conclusion of polling in the southern region. Jammu and Kashmir, having its first election since 2019, focuses on the Srinagar constituency, while the Anantnag-Rajouri seat’s polling is deferred to May 25 due to objections.

This phase witnesses active participation from non-aligned parties like Biju Janata Dal and YSR Congress, with neither officially aligning with the ruling or opposition blocs. Meanwhile, questions arise regarding the Election Commission’s impartiality following notices sent to BJP and Congress chiefs regarding controversial remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi. Amidst the electoral process, Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal receives interim bail from the Supreme Court, scheduled to surrender post-election.

Notable candidates include Union ministers Giriraj Singh and Ajay Mishra, alongside key opposition figures like Mohua Moitra, Akhilesh Yadav, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and Shatrughan Sinha, contesting for parliamentary seats. As the election progresses, eyes turn to the subsequent phases, with the next scheduled on May 20 and vote counting set for June 4, post the final phase on June 1.
